Hi All,

In order to get your USB 3G modem to works with FortiGate firewall, you have to add the modem ID manually into the firewall modem setting. This setting was tested on FortiGate 60D using firmware 5.2.11, 5.4.5 & 5.6.2 with Huawei E1692 USB 3G modem from Maxis Broadband. Follow all steps as below;

  1. Connect your usb modem into FortiGate USB port.
  2. If the modem menu not available, navigate to CLI and type

#config system modem
#set status enable
#end

  1. Refresh browser and and you will see modem option under Network > Modem
  2. From CLI type as below to collect USB modem identification

# fnsysctl cat /proc/bus/usb/device

This article summarizes MTU sizes and jumbo frames support on FortiGate devices.

Fortinet Port Devices Driver

Jumbo frames are packets that are larger than the standard 1500 maximum transmission unit (MTU) size. Common maximum sizes for jumbo frames include 9000 and 16110 bytes. Jumbo frames increase data transfer speeds by carrying more data per frame, reducing the overhead from headers. All routes that carry jumbo frames must have network devices that all support jumbo frames. Otherwise, the frames will be dropped.
Starting with FortiOS 3.0 MR2, the Fast-Ethernet (100Mbit) and Gigabit-Ethernet (1000Mbit) interfaces of the FortiGate models 300A and upper support jumbo frames with the following details.Fortinet firewall
